est un adjectif démonstratif masculin singulier (ce livre, ce soir) et aussi un pronom neutre qui entre dans de nombreuses constructions figées : c'est, ce que, ce qui, ce dont. La forme cet s'emploie à la place de ce devant un nom masculin commençant par une voyelle ou un h muet : cet homme, cet arbre.
La confusion la plus répandue est entre ce pronom (ce n'est pas vrai) et se pronom réfléchi (il se lève). À l'oral, les deux se prononcent /sə/, mais à l'écrit la distinction est essentielle. Notez aussi que c'est s'emploie pour présenter ou identifier (c'est mon ami), tandis qu'il est précède un adjectif seul (il est médecin).
