The plain negative, and the one to reach for by default. It sits immediately in front of the word it denies, which is usually the verb, and unlike English it needs no auxiliary: "non venit" is "he does not come", with nothing standing in for "does".

Move it and you change the scope of the denial. "Non omnes venerunt" is "not everyone came", while "omnes non venerunt" would deny it of every single one. Latin also has "ne" for prohibitions and purpose clauses and "nec" for "and not", and it does not stack negatives the way English does: two negatives in a Latin sentence cancel, so "non nemo" means "somebody".
