Trois est le chiffre 3, invariable. Le s final est muet devant une consonne (trois maisons /tʁwa mɛzɔ̃/) et en liaison devant une voyelle se prononce /z/ : trois amis /tʁwa zami/. En position finale ou isolée : /tʁwa/.
Trois fois (three times) et tous les trois (all three of them) sont très courants. En deux temps trois mouvements (in the blink of an eye, very quickly) est une locution idiomatique. Règle de trois (rule of three, cross-multiplication) est un terme mathématique. Jamais deux sans trois (things always come in threes) est un proverbe populaire.
