Le père suivi d'un prénom est une adresse familière et affectueuse surtout dans le milieu rural ou chez les personnes âgées : le père Martin. Bon père de famille désignait historiquement un gestionnaire raisonnable et prudent - expression aujourd'hui désuète mais encore présente dans le droit civil français.
