est un adverbe polyvalent couvrant still (continuité), again (répétition), et more (quantité supplémentaire). La distinction avec toujours pour le sens still est fine : il est encore/toujours là. Devant un comparatif, encore renforce : encore plus grand, encore mieux.

La locution encore que + subjonctif introduit une concession dans un registre soutenu : c'est une bonne idée, encore qu'il faille vérifier les chiffres. Encore une fois (one more time) est plus courant que le calque anglais une autre fois dans le sens répétitif.
