Jusqu' est la forme élidée de jusque (la préposition de base) devant une voyelle. Devant une consonne, on garde jusque uniquement dans certaines locutions (jusque-là, jusque chez lui) ; dans la plupart des emplois, jusqu'à (followed by a consonant) ou jusqu'en / jusqu'au sont les formes usuelles.
Jusqu'à présent (up to now, so far) et jusqu'ici (up to here, so far) sont très fréquents. Jusqu'à ce que + subjonctif exprime la limite temporelle : attends jusqu'à ce qu'il arrive. Aller jusqu'à + infinitif (to go so far as to) marque une intensité surprenante : il est allé jusqu'à démissionner (he went so far as to resign).
