hodiaŭ

Hodiaŭ is already an adverb, so it never wants a preposition in front of it: say hodiaŭ, not en hodiaŭ. Stack a second adverb on it for the part of the day, giving hodiaŭ matene and hodiaŭ vespere, which is how Esperanto says "this morning" and "this evening" without any new words. It behaves noun-like after de, as in la gazeto de hodiaŭ, and hodiaŭa is the adjective: la hodiaŭa mondo. It belongs to a tight trio with hieraŭ and morgaŭ, all three ending in that same -aŭ.
