Translation
to wait, to wait for; to expect
Examples
.
I waited for you for two hours.
.
She is waiting for a letter from her son.
.

, .
He did not expect that she would come.
.
The boy waited for his father at the door.
is transitive and swallows its object whole: , never . The English "for" has no business here, and it is the single most common slip English speakers make with this verb. The same word covers expecting - respondon - so context does the sorting. Useful derivatives are (a wait), o (a waiting room) and neatendita (unexpected), which turns up constantly in narrative prose.
