ĝi

Ĝi is the pronoun for a thing, an animal or a small child, and it also fills the empty English "it" of "it is late". Object ĝin, possessive ĝia. Esperanto puts no gender on nouns at all, so a table, a book and a language are all ĝi, and there is nothing to memorise. It has no plural of its own: several things become ili, the same word used for people.
