est une préposition spécifiquement française sans équivalent direct en anglais. Elle s'emploie pour indiquer le domicile ou l'espace d'une personne (chez lui, chez le médecin), un lieu commercial attaché à une personne (chez le boulanger), ou une caractéristique propre à un groupe (chez les adolescents, chez Proust).
La construction chez + pronom tonique ou nom propre est très productive : chez soi (at home, one's own place) exprime un sentiment d'appartenance intime. Se sentir chez soi (to feel at home) dépasse le sens purement spatial. Chez ne s'emploie qu'avec des humains ou des entités assimilables - on ne dit pas chez la voiture mais dans la voiture.
